Everlasting Light

We are all working very hard in preparation of the Christmas Musical to be put up on 15 and 16 next month. I have never sang so much in my life. Ever since we started having more frequent practices this month, I have been singing for almost 4 hours on end from 7 to 11 pm on Mondays and Fridays. We had another marathon today, practising and brushing up all the pieces.

It was indeed fun. It is amazing how 40 over voices can become one to proclaim one message of our Saviour, Immanuel. It is not easy but it can be done.

However, someone commented to me that all this singing and choir is superficial. He felt that it is a waste of time and that if we want to spread the gospel, it has to be done directly, on a one-to-one basis.

I was very disappointed to hear that, for I felt that music is one of the best ways to spread the good news to the others while at the same time as an offering of praise and worship to God. The pastor will be ministering with a message and we are going to have counsellors in place to lead and guide those who may be interested to take hold of a life in Christ.

  1. Yes Maeghan, I'm with you. I think music is a great way to touch people. You never know what will move them - the Spirit moves in mysterious ways.

If that guy isn't in to it, maybe he'll find another way...

I couldn't sing for 4 hours straight, but I love to listen!

Yup, that is a good way of looking at it. Everyone of us have our own ways to serve God.

Well, not exactly, 4 hours straight without stopping :) but add on talking in between, there is no rest!

  5. Last year we had a Christmas Eve and Christmas service. The Eve service brought in several new faces, some stayed and now attend. You never know what God has planned. I love to listen, it bring a nice calm in the rushing time.

  6. Your,

Friend is quite mistaken. God's Word, and the truth of His Gospel is effective in most any format. To me people who make comments like that are commenting on what is effective to them, not on what can be effective to others.

It is like when someone is convicted to stop a habbit and they are mad that other weren't convicted of the same thing! Just because God has chosen at this time to convict you of something, doesn't make it the burden of the rest of the world: it is yours.

So nannie nannie to your short-sighted acquantaince.

    God Bless
    Doug

  7. Maeghan,

Your friend there is offensively selfish and arrogant, but at least he's completely wrong. Where do some people get their falacies? In the words of some scientist somewhere, that's so bad it's not even wrong.

Don't let your heart be troubled. If you need scripture, just say the word. You can start with the biblical command to exhort one another with songs, hymns and spiritual songs, but that's just the obvious.

  8. oh dear ... how could I have forgotten about the Colossians and Ephesians verses on exhorting each other with hymns and spiritual songs? I did one module on Eph! Shame on me.

  9. Condemnation freezes us all in place. Don't feel alone. That's why we have to protect each other.

    Go with God, sister!
